Sana Khan was recently seen on Rashami Desai’s YouTube channel with her husband, Mufti Anas Saiyad, where she addressed rumours that she was forced or “brainwashed” into quitting showbiz.
Known for Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Bigg Boss 6, Sana surprised many in 2020 when she announced her exit from films. A month later, she married Anas in a private ceremony. The couple now has two children and lives a quiet life away from the spotlight.
Talking about her wedding, Sana said it was kept completely secret. Only her parents knew about it, and she didn’t even share her husband’s name with the mehendi artist. She explained that it was a very personal phase for her, as she was going through a major life change and choosing a new direction.
Sana explained that Anas supported her during this emotional and spiritual shift. She said that her husband did not force her into anything but instead guided her through a phase she had already chosen for herself. “This is something I wanted. He just helped me understand and walk on that path,” she said.
Addressing rumours about her transformation, Sana spoke honestly about how people judged her decision to wear a hijab and to leave the film industry. She said many assumed that her husband had influenced or controlled her choices. “People think someone brainwashed me, but that’s not true. No one can brainwash you unless you want that change yourself,” Sana explained. She added that while fame, money, and success are important, they don’t always bring peace. “At the end of the day, everyone wants mental peace, and that’s what I was searching for,” she said.
Sana also reflected on why she felt the need to leave the industry. According to her, the environment around a person plays a big role in shaping decisions. “When your surroundings are not right, your decisions also go wrong,” she said, adding that stepping away helped her find clarity and balance in life.
She further shared that she deeply values her relationship with her husband and respects the way his family welcomed her. Sana also mentioned that Anas and his family covered most of the wedding expenses, which she found to be a thoughtful and supportive gesture.
Looking back at her past, Sana’s life before marriage had its share of struggles. In 2019, she publicly confirmed her relationship with choreographer Melvin Louis. However, the relationship ended on a painful note. In early 2020, Sana accused Melvin of infidelity and abuse. She had also spoken about facing physical violence and claimed that he had hurt other women as well.
In October 2020, Sana announced her decision to quit Bollywood through a heartfelt Instagram post. She wrote that she wanted to leave her showbiz life behind and dedicate herself to serving humanity and following her faith.
