Hemant Nagindas Purushottamdas Modi is a supporting actor who worked in Bollywood films, television shows, and stage productions. According to police officials, he managed to build a steady career in the entertainment industry even while being declared a parole absconder.
Investigators revealed that after leaving prison on temporary parole in 2014, Hemant Modi allegedly never returned to jail and instead shifted between different cities while changing identities.
Police said he first stayed in Patan before moving back to Ahmedabad under the name Twinkle Mukund Dave. Later, he relocated to Mumbai and reportedly began using the screen name Spandan Modi while working in the film and television industry.
What Was the Case Against Hemant Modi?
The case dates back to June 2005, when a violent clash linked to a land dispute took place in Ahmedabad’s Naroda area. Hemant Modi was later convicted of the murder case and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2008.
He was serving his sentence at the Mehsana District Jail and had spent nearly 6 years behind bars before receiving a 30-day parole in 2014 under a Gujarat High Court order.
However, after the parole period ended, Modi allegedly failed to surrender to prison authorities. Police officially declared him a parole jumper on July 25, 2014.
Actor Worked in Bollywood While Absconding
Police officials said he appeared in more than 40 projects, including films, web series, television serials, and theatre plays. His reported film credits include Thugs of Hindostan starring Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, as well as Jayeshbhai Jordaar featuring Ranveer Singh.
Investigators also claimed that he was associated with upcoming projects such as Lahore 1947 and Metro… In Dino and the Malayalam film L2: Empuraan.
Apart from films, Hemant Modi reportedly appeared in television shows such as Wagle Ki Duniya and Mere Sai. He also stayed active in theatre productions, including “Yugpurush” and “Gandhi Viruddh Godse.”
Arrested Near Ahmedabad Metro Station
According to officials, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch recently traced Hemant Modi to a residence near Ghee Kanta Metro Station in Ahmedabad, where he was taken into custody.
Police said he will now be sent back to Mehsana District Jail to serve the remaining period of his life sentence. The original 2005 case included charges related to murder, criminal conspiracy, rioting, unlawful assembly, and violation of prohibitory orders under the Bombay Police Act.
