Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files has finally hit the big screens, standing tall as one of the boldest films ever made in Indian cinema. The narrative moves seamlessly between the past and the present, uncovering the harsh truths of Direct Action Day on 16th August 1946. While the film had a slow start at the box office, it is now riding high on extraordinary word of mouth, registering +111% growth and collecting over ₹10.13 Cr. over the weekend in India.

The steady and strong growth of The Bengal Files underscores the extraordinary audience connect and unstoppable momentum. Despite a slow start on Friday, impacted by festivals, Ganapati Visarjan, heavy rains, and floods, the film has shown a phenomenal upward trajectory, repeating the group-booking phenomenon last witnessed during The Kashmir Files.

The occupancy in theatres surged rapidly from 15–20% on Friday to 60–70% on Sunday evening shows across India. Key metro cities such as Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai, and Bengaluru reported houseful evening shows, leading several theatres to increase show counts from Monday onwards.

Looking at its box office performance, the film collected ₹2.18 Cr. on Friday, ₹3.35 Cr. on Saturday, and ₹4.60 Cr. on Sunday, taking the weekend total to ₹10.13 Cr. gross in India. Remarkably, from Friday to Sunday, the film registered +111% growth. In the overseas market, the film collected ₹1.50 Cr.

The Bengal Files is written and directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri. The film, presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal & I Am Buddha Productions, is part of Vivek’s Files trilogy, which includes The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files. The film released in theatres on September 5, 2025.
