Olivia Rodrigo claimed in a new interview that Selena Gomez advised her to prioritize her mental health.

Olivia discussed her atypical Disney stardom in an interview with Variety, revealing how she was simultaneously cemented into Disney Channel canon with starring roles in Bizaardvark and High School Musical: The Series, as well as riding the tsunami wave of success of her non-Disney-affiliated debut album Sour.

Olivia’s music career has taken a very different path from that of other performers and Disney alumni such as Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. Despite this, Olivia claims that her predecessors, particularly Selena, have taught her a lot.

Olivia has benefited from many things since joining the Pop Princess ranks, the most recent of which is receiving advice from some of the genre’s most accomplished women. Olivia opened up about seeking tips on how to deal with her swift and crazy climb to popularity from Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez during her interview for Variety’s Young Hollywood edition.

Olivia stated, “I met Selena, and she was incredibly nice.” “She stressed to me the importance of prioritizing mental health, which I believe is critical in this field.” We were all in the spotlight when we were very little… That can be hard on your psyche and lead to all sorts of strange problems.”

Olivia acknowledged her thanks to the women that came before her by saying, “It’s so good to be accepted into the music profession, and it’s so great to be supportive of other women.”
