Body shaming is unfortunately something that is quite rampant in almost every showbiz industry. It is especially ruthless for K-pop idols. Both male and female idols face backlash when it comes to their weight, and looks. However, females seem to receive some of the harshest comments. But not everyone stands for these criticisms. There are quite a few female k-pop idols who spoke up against it and embraced body positivity, as per an All Kpop report.

1) TWICE’s Jihyo:
Jihyo has faced quite a bit of criticism for her weight right from the Survival show days! She spent quite a bit of time losing weight to fit everyone’s expectations. She opened up about the negative impact all the body-shaming caused her in 2020. She stated, “I’m happy making money to buy delicious food and eat it with my friends. I don’t think I have to look skinny.”

2) F(x)’s Amber:
F(x) Amber is known to bash gender roles! However, she faces quite a bit of criticism for being too boyish. Amber addressed the issue back in 2018. She said, “for a long time people made me feel ashamed of my body. Then I became ashamed of my body. people wanted me to be weak because that’s what a girl “should” be like. I threw away my ambitions and goals. Well, I’m not that person anymore. I will always continue to work hard, become stronger, and learn to love myself for who I am, imperfections and all.”

3) MAMAMOO’s Wheein and Hwasa:
Hwasa has got felt the brunt of the unforgiving beauty standard of K-pop on many occasions. But it never deterred her from doing what she loves. She insists, “No matter how I’m criticized, in the end, I’m going to sing in front of those people.”
Wheein spoke up about concerns about her weight gain during a vlive where Hwasa chimed in saying, “Make the clothes fit you. Don’t let yourself fit into the clothes.” These body-positive words from Hwasa resonated within Wheein, who agreed, “Weight is not important. Being happy is the best.”

4) Ailee:
There are idols who are also tormented by fans for being too skinny. Aliee spoke up about this after she received a comment during a live show that said, “Please stop dieting.” She replied, “I do not know what to do. When I lose weight, people tell me to gain some weight. Then, they fret if I gain weight and tell me to lose it.”
