Prashant Tamang died of cardiac arrest at the age of 43. The Indian Idol 3 winner, who has earned praise for his mellifluous voice over the years, also baffled viewers with his intimidating portrayal of an assassin in Patal Lok 2. His untimely demise has left the industry mourning. His art shall be dearly missed.
His friend Mahesh Sewa took to social media and stated, “He (Tamang) passed away this morning around 9am due to cardiac arrest at his residence in Delhi. He was taken to the hospital by his family but the doctors declared him dead on arrival. I’m shocked by his untimely demise. I spoke to him a few days ago and he was hale and hearty,” per The Hindu

Prashant Tamang became an Indian singer and actor who gained national recognition as the winner of Indian Idol Season 3 in 2007. His journey through the music industry began with abiding by the law in Kolkata Police, where he was part of the police orchestra during his reality TV breakthrough. He released albums like Dhanyavad and Namaste, but later his shift into movies made him a superstar in Nepali cinema, starring in massive hits like Gorkha Paltan (2010), Nishani (2014), and the Pardeshi series. He also made his mark in Indian digital media and won critics’ hearts for his tough character of the killer Daniel Acho in Paatal Lok Season 2 (2025).
His work spanning this vast musical career and theatrics shall always be remembered by his fans. We are sending heartfelt condolences to the family.
