The death case of Assamese iconic singer Zubeen Garg has once again caught our attention after the latest Singapore court hearing on the incident. Amidst the confusing speculations and questions, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Thursday, January 15, declined to comment on the proceedings in the Singapore court hearing in Zubeen’s death despite Zubeen’s wife demanding the truth and extending full support to the government with her big post on Facebook.

Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, on her social media, penned an emotional note extending her full support to investigate the real cause of Zubeen’s death and even urged the Indian Government to overlook the proceedings in Singapore and carry out all the necessary steps to ensure that the truth comes out.

Garima’s note started with, “We place this note before the people of Assam, the Government of Assam, and all who loved Zubeen Garg, in the spirit of transparency, dignity, and truth.”

Demanding justice and truth, she also mentioned in the long note, “Appeal to the Government of India and Government of Assam :

We respectfully urge the Government of India and the Government of Assam to:

• Monitor the proceedings in the Singapore Coroner’s Court at the highest level

• Take all necessary diplomatic and legal steps to ensure that every relevant fact is placed before the Court

• Pursue expeditious and effective prosecution in India on the basis of the charge sheet already filed

• Ensure that neither jurisdiction becomes an excuse for delay or dilution.”

And concluded with, “We continue to seek only one thing: That the entire truth—every action taken, every word spoken, every moment lost—be fully and transparently examined and the guilty is punished to the highest level, and for that we will walk every legal path available—solemnly, consistently, and in good faith. #JusticeForZubeenGarg.”

When asked the CM about Zubeen’s death case, he said, “I have read about it in the paper just as you all have. I don’t want to comment on it as people of Assam will analyse my words in different ways.”

He added, “Politicians should not get involved in matters related to the court. We should stay away.” Additionally, he mentioned that the Singapore police have provided the reports, and there has been a hearing in their court.

Zubeen Garg, the popular singer from Assam, died at the age of 52 while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19. The Singapore police, who carried out the investigation, said in the coroner’s court on Wednesday that Zubeen was severely intoxicated and refused to wear a life jacket before drowning in Lazarus Island, and there is no foul play in his death.
