Becoming passionate about the violin and multifaceted in the arts at a rather small age, up and coming actor Wenjie Yang, also known as Mike Yang, moved to New York City to pursue his career in the drama industry and has enrolled at New York University (NYU) Tisch School of the Arts as a drama and acting major, putting in the work to further perfect his craft and propel his career.

At the age of five years old, Mike Yang manifested a heartfelt interest in music and musical instrument, specifically the violin. Taking interest in the violin and practicing endlessly to get better at it, he found himself playing at the Guangzhou Opera House, one of China’s most acclaimed and recognized concert halls. Soon after, Yang felt a deeper appreciation and connection for the arts blossom within him, pushing him further to pursue his interests in the arts on an academic and career-related level. As such, with great determination and many hours of hard work and dedication, Mike found himself being offered admission to the world-class and world-renowned New York University (NYU) Tisch School of the Arts. He accepted the offer and enrolled in the school as a drama/acting major.

During his time at NYU Tisch, Mike has been tirelessly making the effort to become better at his passions, finding opportunities both within and outside the school to perfect his craft. He’s received training from Matt Newton, one of the best acting coaches in the city of New York and has also made his way into Atlantic Acting Studio as an acting student trainee. This summer, Mike received private instruction from the reputable Peter Jenson, artistic director at the well known T. Schreiber Studio.

Mike is constantly making moves to improve his acting and musical dexterity. When asked what drives him, he cites his passion for the art as well as the influences that Chinese actors such as Tony Leung, Li Gong, Jackie Chan, and Bruce Li have had on him since his childhood. Yang made explicit that with his education and training, he seeks to make strides all the way to Hollywood, to take charge in the frontline effort to expand Asian representation in the entertainment industry, whilst incorporating pieces of himself in his work, such as his mother tongue, Cantonese, and some Mandarin Chinese. A man of culture, he also seeks to connect himself into the Chinese entertainment industry and gradually make his way into international productions so as to appease audiences everywhere. Mike is diligent in his efforts to make the entertainment industry better and more delightful for all and he is certainly an illustrious character to be on the lookout for.
