A disheartening piece of news surfaces: Shapoor Zadran, the well-known and one of the pioneers of Afghanistan’s rise in international cricket, is currently struggling in a hospital while his family is pleading for immediate help to save him. Shapoor’s brother, Ghamai Zadran, shared a post requesting help from the public in New Delhi. According to reports, the former cricketer is suffering from Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). This is a rare and life-threatening immune disorder.
On Wednesday, April 29, Shapoor’s brother, Ghamai Zadran, shared a post on his social media, showcasing Shapoor’s critical condition from a hospital bed, accompanied by a picture of him in the field. In his emotional note, Ghamai asked for help from the public for A+ blood to save his brother.
Ghamai wrote, “My brother, national hero Shapoor Zadran, is currently in a concerning health condition.
With your prayers, we stand by our national hero. Due to a deficiency and urgent need, he is in critical need of blood.”
He further added, “If any friends are residing in New Delhi, India, and have blood group A positive (+A), please kindly do not hesitate to donate this to our national hero.

The disease Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis causes the body’s immune system to attack healthy organs and tissues, leading to inflammation and damage to the bone marrow, liver, and spleen.
As per the reports, Shapoor fell ill before discovering HLH in October 2025. After doctors’ advice, he was brought to India in January and has been receiving intensive care since then. Sharing about his brother, Ghamai, earlier said that Shapoor still fights with his disease with the spirit he brings to the field.
