In the fourth Test between India and England, all-rounder Shardul Thakur shone with the bat in the first innings, scoring 57 off just 36 balls, bringing the Indian squad’s total to 191.
The Indian batting row had once again crumbled, putting pressure on the lower-order, but Thakur’s quickfire allowed the side to finish with at least some points on the board.
Thakur also held the record for the fastest Test fifty by any batsman on English soil, and his batting prowess drew accolades from all around the world.
Fans, as well as the cricketing community, lauded him on Twitter, invoking his nickname ‘Lord.’ When asked about the moniker, the batsman’s reaction was epic.
Thakur stated in a video released by the BCCI that he is grateful for all of the affection he is receiving. “@imShard is happy with the love he’s getting from his teammates & not to forget some legendary nicknames “Tula maanla re” Shardul #TeamIndia #ENGvIND,” the BCCI captioned the video.
“I think only the two of the names are my nicknames. Lord is just a meme that started on social media I think. But yes, pretty happy that I am getting so much love from the teammates and from everyone that they want to call me by a certain nickname, so very happy about it.” Said Shardul Thakur in an interview according to msn.com
The only ones who stood up to the squad were Thakur and Virat Kohli, the captain. Thakur had dragged up a rapid half-century to improve India’s position.
In terms of the contest, the Indian bowlers rallied and took three early wickets. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed both openers, while Umesh Yadav claimed Joe Root’s prized scalp.
