Sania Mirza, a tennis prodigy, has announced her retirement from the sport after the 2022 season, citing the wear and tear on her body. On January 19, 2022, she made the news following her first-round loss in women’s doubles at the Australian Open. She made it plain, however, that the loss in the first round had no bearing on her decision.

After her birth, her family went to Hyderabad, where she and her younger sister, Anam Mirza, were nurtured. Anam is married to Mohammad Asaduddin, the son of former cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin.

After winning the Grand Slam in 2004, Mirza became the first woman to win the Women’s Tennis Association title. The next year, she was awarded the Arjuna Award.

The ace tennis winner has always advocated for making your own decisions and controlling the shots in your life. She has discussed how difficult it is to manage parenthood and a successful sporting career in various interviews with Gulf News.
