Actor Abhishek Kapoor keeps his passion for the game of cricket soaring high when it comes to following the ongoing season of the Indian Premiere League (IPL). He is not only a follower of the game but loves playing it too. He recently captained the Delhi Titans team in the Actors Cricket Bash and won the tournament.

As for IPL 2026, Abhishek does not hold a favourite card to any team, but loves to witness good games. Ask him about his top 4 for the playoff possibilities, he says, “For me, it will be Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.”

He is mightily impressed with the game and approach of youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He says, “He is in top form at the moment. The think tank should think of giving him a T20 call. It will groom him in a big way, as he will play for the national team in different conditions.”

Talking about the debatable pitches in IPL 2026, which have mostly been in favour of the batsmen, Abhishek avers, “The pitches have been good for batting. We are seeing high-scoring games, and we need to accept that the skill set of players has also increased, as they adapt well to the playing conditions. They are brave enough to hit from the first ball they face. This is the way modern-day games are played. At the same time, certain bowlers have still managed to do really well.”

Speaking in favour of test cricket, he says, “The ultimate goal for any player is test cricket. If a player is talented, he will adapt to all the formats of the game, even if he starts his career playing the shortest format.”

Talking about the requirements to make it big in cricket in today’s times, he states, “Even unconventional players succeed if they have a good technique, fitness and consistency. One should have a clear goal, to represent the country and do well at the highest level.”

On his love for cricket, he says, “I used to enjoy the four-day games. But now, it is mostly T20. I play for the passion of the sport and for competitive sportsmanship.”

Lastly, he does not mince words when he says, “Test cricket is the epitome of cricket. I hope it never fades away.”
