For actor Aditya Deshmukh, known for his performance in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, this Mother’s Day carries a weight it has never had before. Last month, his mother spent five harrowing days in the ICU, followed by four days in the ward as she battled the initial stage of liver cirrhosis. For Aditya and his elder brother, it was the culmination of a difficult one-and-a-half-year journey with her illness.
“Those days were rough for all of us,” Aditya recalls. “As a son, watching your mother fight like that changes you. But her will to live and be with her entire family kept us going. Touchwood, with God’s grace, she’s now recovering at home.” He adds that the outpouring of love from fans — messages and prayers for his mother’s speedy recovery — came at a time when the family needed support the most. “It was so welcoming. I was truly blessed by that love.”
Today is also his parents’ anniversary, making the day doubly significant. But the Deshmukhs are keeping celebrations intentionally simple and subtle. With strict dietary restrictions due to her condition and doctors advising rest, there will be no fancy outings. The plan: a quiet cake cutting, healthy home-cooked food, and time with close family and friends. She was discharged only 10 days ago, so the focus remains on her recovery.
Aditya says his mother’s values are his compass. “She’s incredibly innocent at heart. She always taught us — even if someone does wrong to you, you must be good to them. Keep your karma right. My brother and I are short-tempered, but we try to live by her example every day.”
For the actor, who has balanced hectic shoot schedules with hospital visits over the past year, the biggest gift this Mother’s Day isn’t material. “She gave me life. The values she inculcated in us are breathtaking. Having her with us, smiling, having fun — that’s everything. We’re just praying for her steady recovery.”
