Poulami Das, who entered the audience in TV show Suhani Si Ek Ladki and web series namely Dil Hi Toh Hai, Baarish, is elated about her new show Star Bharat’s Kartik Purnima produced by Rolling Pictures.

Kartik Purnima is a Cinderella story of a dusky girl- Purnima, who considers her skin color to be her mother’s blessing. She is tortured by her stepmother & step-sister, but just like any other fairy tale, her prince charming- Kartik falls in love with Purnima for who she is and he sees her beyond her color. Kartik’s mother is very color-conscious, she hates anything that is black, including people who are not fair in color.

The show is a beautiful love story that traces the journey of Kartik and Purnima where Kartik falls in love with her for who she is and not what she looks like. The show will focus on Purnima and Kartik’s journey and their tryst to win over everyone against all family and societal pressures to make their love story come true.

Talking about her character and show, she says, “The concept of the show is a very important topic. We are in 2020 but still, a lot of parents don’t allow their son to marry a girl who is dusky in colour. You can’t define a person based on their colour, caste. These are very secondary. This is my first show as a lead actress. I consider myself very lucky that I was selected to play Purnima’s role. Through the concept of this show, I will able to make people understand that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Thus, the audience will witness the journey of Purnima and Kartik’s unique love story, which will surely bring a smile on the face of the audience.”

When asked if she had faced any kind of torture or any comments on her colour, she shares, “I grew in such a way, wherein my parents told me that my colour is not something to be get worried about. I am a normal human being so I always flaunted and accepted the way it is. I never faced torture or depression. I am always proud of it and I like my colour. I feel normal like the other people do.”

On an end note, she mentions, “Please watch the show as we have put in a lot of hard work. I am sure the audience will fall in love with the show after watching a few episodes. We will try our level best to tell people and society that colour is secondary. The person is most important. I am sure the concept will help in changing the perception of the society.”

Good luck girl!!
