Manisha Purohit, who is currently seen in Star Plus’ O Humnava Tum Dena Saath Mera, produced by Studio LSD, believes that consistency in television does not mean repeating the same performance every day. For the actress, keeping her portrayal fresh comes from introducing something different in every scene and making sure that her performance never becomes monotonous.
Talking about how she maintains freshness while working on a daily soap, Manisha says, “I never give the full thali of performance at once. I like to give it little by little, just like a meal where you first have the main course, then farsan and finally something sweet. By using different catchphrases and different movements in each scene, I make sure there is no monotony. This way, every new scene feels fresh to me, and I always try to deliver a performance that looks fresh to the audience.”
For Manisha, the show’s appeal also lies in its characters and storyline. She feels that the mature love story between the lead pair, Shabir and Sriti, has struck a chord with the audience. “Our lead pair Shabir and Sriti’s mature love story, and all the characters are suitable according to their roles. Everyone is trying to give their best. I think with the concept and storyline, it works for viewers,” she shares.
The actress also has a positive approach towards social media and public perception. Rather than viewing social media as a source of pressure, she enjoys using it as a way to stay connected with viewers. “I love to connect with the public, so I like to be a part of social media too. At my age, I am learning all these things and trying to connect. It is not pressure for me; it is joy, and I enjoy it,” says Manisha.
Speaking about the changing entertainment landscape, Manisha feels OTT has brought audiences closer to stories that appear real and contemporary. She says, “I feel it is real and current affairs stories on OTT, and we relate to them also. Personally, I watch only those shows which I feel like watching, like Panchayat, Special Ops and Mission Safesagar. So I feel it is very real content.”
For Manisha, the success of a show is certainly special, but it is not something an actor should take for granted. She believes that television success can bring recognition and beautiful memories, but an actor has to remain prepared for the next challenge once a show ends.
“People know you, but once the show goes off the air, you have to struggle again. So nothing is permanent. Personally and professionally, you have to always be calm about what you achieve or gain from a hit show, because after that you have to run again. So always be humble and be down to earth,” Manisha concludes.
