Gulki Joshi in the role of Dr Srishti in Sony SAB’s Hui Gumm Yaadein is winning hearts. The graceful demeanour and silent resilience of the character shine through Gulki’s performance. In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Srishti talks about her role, about the show and more. As we know, this Sobo Films show has Iqbal Khan, Gulki Joshi and Srishti Singh playing the central roles.
Gulki has been an exceptional performer, and her work profile speaks volumes about the varied roles she has accepted and delivered in her career. Talking about expressing deep emotional pain that her character carries in the show, she says, “For me, pain is often quieter than what we usually see on television. With Srishti, I focused on restraint—the pauses, the silences, the things left unsaid. Instead of breaking down loudly, I tried to internalise her emotions, letting it reflect through her eyes and body language. Sometimes, stillness can say far more than tears.”
Working with Iqbal Khan is like a breeze, according to Gulki. “Iqbal is extremely easygoing and collaborative. There’s a calm energy he brings on set, which really helps, especially in emotionally layered scenes. We didn’t need to over-discuss our dynamic—it evolved very organically, which made our scenes feel honest and lived-in.”
Remind her that she was not the first choice for the role, and Gulki connects with the thought instantly and gives her thought process on it. “Yes, and I think that’s what makes it more special. Sometimes roles find you when they’re meant to. When I came on board, I didn’t think about being “second choice”—I focused on understanding Srishti deeply and bringing my own truth to her. I believe what’s yours will eventually come to you, and when it does, you make it count.”
Speaking highly about the look given to her in the show, she says, “I’m glad it’s resonating! The idea was to keep Srishti very real and relatable—nothing over-styled. Soft tones, minimal makeup, and a clean aesthetic. It reflects her personality—composed on the outside, but with a lot going on within.”
