Actress Sumbul Toqueer, who is currently seen in the Sony SAB show Itti Si Khushi, shares that most of her Republic Day memories are deeply connected to her school days. Like many others, the day for her meant early mornings, neat uniforms, and a strong feeling of pride that stayed in her heart for a long time.
“For most of us, Republic Day memories come from the customary school celebrations,” Sumbul says. “There was always something very special about that day. We would reach school early, stand in proper lines, and wait for the flag hoisting ceremony.”
She adds that one moment she can never forget is when the flag slowly unfolded. “When the flag opened, and flower petals showered down, it felt magical. Everyone would look up at the Tiranga with so much respect,” she shares.
Talking about the atmosphere, Sumbul says, “The national anthem sung by hundreds of students and teachers together gave me goosebumps every time. In that moment, we all felt connected, proud, and truly patriotic.”
The actress also fondly remembers the small joys that followed the ceremony. “After the assembly, there was a sweet distribution, which we all waited for,” she laughs. “And later, we would enjoy the annual sports events. It was a full day of happiness, excitement, and bonding with friends.”
She says that as she has grown up and become busy with work, she misses those simple celebrations. “It is a major miss now. Life becomes fast, and those slow, meaningful moments become rare,” she adds.
Sumbul believes that Republic Day holds deep importance in everyone’s life. “The day encourages us to be thankful for our country and for our freedom fighters who made us independent and gave us the right to live in a republic,” she says.
She concludes by saying, “Even today, whenever I hear the National Anthem or see the Tiranga, I am taken back to my school ground, standing in the sun with my friends, feeling proud to be an Indian.”
