International Plastic Bag Free Day, celebrated on July 3rd, stands as a powerful reminder to adopt a lifestyle rooted in mindfulness, challenge the allure of convenience, and commit to choices that safeguard our environment. For decades, the pervasive presence of single-use plastic has infiltrated virtually every aspect of our daily lives, from our weekly grocery shopping to the most basic of necessities. However, a significant shift is underway. On this significant occasion, actress Ayushi Khurana, known for her lead role in the Zee TV show Jaane Anjaane Hum Mile, shares her personal journey towards sustainability.
Ayushi Khurana says, “My shift away from plastic began with one thought that would not leave me: ‘Something I used for five minutes could harm the earth for hundreds of years.’ It was a startling realisation. After that, I started keeping a set of reusable foldable cloth bags in my car and handbag. What surprised me was how easy it actually was. I used to think sustainability meant sacrifice, but it’s just a habit shift. As actors, we are constantly seen on screens and in people’s lives. I think that visibility comes with responsibility. If I can influence even a few people to rethink their habits, that’s a win. This International Plastic Bag Free Day, I urge everyone to take that first step. The planet needs us, and it begins in our homes, in our cars, and in our choices.”
