Renee Dhyani the talented actress is a class act when it comes to portraying the negative roles.

Renee who has been part of Bigg Boss 8, MTV Roadies, Chandrakantha, Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki, Yeh Teri Galiyaan etc is on the lookout for a very challenging character that will yet again bring her out of her comfort zone as an actor. Renee was recently seen in the MX Player series Ratri Ke Yatri where her performance won accolades. She was nominated for the Best Supporting Role in Filmfare OTT Awards.

Says Renee, “I have always been choosy about my roles. I am fine playing negative roles but the role should be convincing enough.”

Renee who has been around in the industry for some time now is not so happy with the way a team effort is disregarded in TV or films.

Renee points out the fact that the leads in TV shows or films gain more prominence when compared to the other key characters.

Raising this concern, Renee poses a question to the media stating, “Whenever the media writes about a show or a film, the headline that grabs attention is about the lead in the TV show or film. I want to remind people that there are many more artists that make up a TV show or a film. There are many strong characters that need to grab equal attention.”

She goes on to say, “Did you see how Sharad Kelkar grabbed all the limelight for the film Laxxmi Bomb? It was a 15-minutes role but the manner in which he stole the limelight was so brilliant. So how come there is more preference given to the lead? Only if the media treats every actor as equal, will the makers and even the public realize it.”

“Have you seen all the actors who have come of age on OTT platforms? Their talent had not been tapped and they are showcasing their talent before one and all now. Such a generalization does not happen on the OTT platform. The webspace offers characters that are equally dominant and prominent. Nobody can claim that one person is the lead in a web show. So let us break the trend and accept all the actors as equal.”

“The OTT platform has shown so much promise and has shown us who are the real performers and who is not. So it is high time that the commercialization of the lead faces gets stopped.”

Adding up, Renee states, “I am not complaining. But I feel that it is high time to look at a project as a project. It is a team effort irrespective of the medium. So I guess the time has come to treat every actor on his/ her merit rather than classifying only a few as lead actors.”
