Actress Samridhii Shukla, who is currently seen in Star Plus and Rajan Shahi’s Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, shares her heartfelt memories and thoughts on the occasion of World Television Day, observed on 21 November. Reflecting on how deeply TV has shaped her journey and life, she talks about her earliest memory of watching television, recalling, “My earliest memory of TV is from Sundays. Every Sunday felt like a mini festival at home because all of us would sit together and watch television.”
She describes how her family finished their work early, gathered in the living room, and enjoyed the shows of the day. She adds, “Those moments made me fall in love with stories and characters. Whatever I am today, I am because of TV. It shaped my dreams in the simplest and sweetest way.”
Speaking about the evolution of television, Samridhii feels the medium has grown beautifully. She says, “Television has evolved a lot, especially in terms of content, storylines, and presentation. Earlier, the storytelling was slower, but today the narratives are sharper and more modern.”
She explains that the arrival of OTT platforms has increased competition, but it has also pushed TV to become more creative and experimental. “Even with so many choices, TV still reaches every home and continues to hold the same warmth,” she adds.
As an artist working in the industry, Samridhii believes television remains special for many reasons. She explains, “TV is relatable. People instantly connect to the characters because they see a little bit of their own life in them.” For actors, she feels television offers unmatched growth and stability. “We get to learn every day, connect with millions, and TV gives a lot of financial security too. I always say proudly, whatever I am today, I am because of TV,” she says.
When asked about the emotional connection of daily soaps and reality shows, she shares, “The emotional connect is still very strong. TV still feels familiar, comforting, and homely. That bond has not reduced at all.”
Thinking about iconic eras of television, Samridhii smiles and says, “I would bring back the early 2000s era. I’m a 2000s kid, and shows like Bidaai, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Kasamh Se, Shararat, Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Khichdi, and Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai made my childhood so colourful.”
She adds that those shows filled TV with innocence, warmth, and unforgettable characters. “Whatever I am today, I am because of TV, and that era shaped my imagination and love for acting.”
Happy World Television Day to our readers!!
