The landmark 20th season of Bigg Boss, Bigg Boss 20, kicked off with a high-energy premiere, streaming first on JioHotstar before airing on Colors TV. The flagship twist for the season—Tathas-Two, produced by Banijay Entertainment, featuring an “Extra Jeevan Daan” lifeline—promises to reshape gameplay. Whether this safety net grants contestants room to breathe or ramps up the pressure remains to be seen.
Host Salman Khan continues to be the lifeblood of the show, celebrating a dual milestone: 38 years in Indian cinema and two decades leading Bigg Boss. Sporting a lean, revamped look, Salman opened the show with an energetic dance medley of his iconic hits. The standout moment of the night was his witty banter with Bigg Boss itself, where the two traded playful jabs about their respective relationship statuses while celebrating 20 years together.
Production designer Varsha Jain has completely transformed the house into a surreal, dreamscape environment named Wonderland. Highlights include a unique Truck Kitchen and striking animal-themed spaces featuring foxes, chameleons, sharks, gorillas, and snakes. Every architectural detail subtly mirrors this season’s tweaked theme and game rules.
Sixteen contestants entered the Bigg Boss house:
Kanika Mann led the lineup, greeting the host with her signature smile.
Aasif Khan brought noticeable energy and enthusiasm.
Qazi Ahmad Tauqeer sought the spotlight early through impromptu singing.
Isha Rikhi quickly began forming social connections.
Aamrapali Dubey displayed a warm, personable side.
Rohed Khan added humour while questioning his own identity.
Love Gill entered after winning the Fans Ka Faisla vote over Riya Ahir, appeared somewhat self-conscious.
MC Mary Kom established a quiet authority, setting high standards from the start.
Yung DSA (Harsh Machare) actively explained his speech style and persona.
Scoutop (Tanmay Singh) appeared cautious and reflective as he stepped inside.
Arishfa Khan showed glimpses of a strong-willed personality.
Gullu (Kushal Tanwar) brought high confidence backed by past reality show wins.
Aman Gandhi made an immediate effort to leave a lasting impression.
Uditi Singh embraced comparisons to Kareena Kapoor.
Rhiti Tiwari projected calm composure.
Mahhi Vij remained quiet and observant, analysing her surroundings.
The premiere featured guest appearances: Manoj Tiwari arrived to support his daughter, Rhiti Tiwari; Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua) cheered on his co-star Aamrapali Dubey; and global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas sent a heartfelt video message wishing MC Mary Kom success.
Overall, while the contestant roster features a varied mix of digital creators, actors, regional cinema actors, and reality show contestants, it noticeably lacks A-list celebrity star power. Salman Khan remains the primary draw and the only big name this season. However, the visually stunning house design, paired with an unfamiliar contestant pool, leaves the playing field wide open—setting up an unpredictable season where every participant will have to earn their spotlight from scratch.
We at IWMBuzz.com give 4 out of 5 stars to Bigg Boss 20.
