Colors has launched two interesting concepts in the last few months in Udaariyaan and Sasural Simar Ka 2. While Udaariyaan is the debut concept of actors turned Producers Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehta (Dreamiyata Entertainment), Sasural Simar Ka 2 produced by Rashmi Sharma Productions marked the arrival of the new season of the yesteryear popular show.

When the shows began, nobody would have ever imagined that the concepts of the shows will see a huge similarity!!

The shows had a lot happening at the same time, which included the grand gala weddings!!

But what was more astonishing for us as viewers is the fact that both Sasural Simar Ka 2 and Udaariyaan carried the same base plot before and just after the weddings!!

The story of two sisters, which leads up to the wedding getting finalized of one of them. However, due to certain reasons, the other sister gets married at the same muhurat to the same groom. This leads to huge tension and the final outcome is that the sister who lost out on the wedding, turns negative in order to seek revenge.

Don’t you agree with us that the basic plot has been the same in both Sasural Simar Ka 2 and Udaariyaan?

Well, whatever it may be, this cute similarity in concept has indeed worked for both the shows. While the wedding track and aftermath took the ratings of Udaariyaan to beyond the 1.6 TVR mark, Sasural Simar Ka 2 which was at a consistent TVR of around 0.7 and 0.8 touched the 1.0 TVR mark with the wedding twist.

Getting deeper into the concepts of the shows, let us speak about Udaariyaan first. Tejo (Priyanka Choudhary) and Jasmine (Isha Malviya) share an inseparable sisterly bond. The only staggering difference in their ideology is that Tejo is more grounded to her roots, while Jasmine always wants to marry a guy who will take her to Canada to live a more luxurious lifestyle. Enters Fateh (Ankit Gupta) who is head over heels in love with Jasmine. A lot of drama and twists finally lead to Jasmine and Fateh’s marriage. However, Fateh gets the terrible news of his Canada Visa getting cancelled just before the wedding. With him hiding this big news from Jasmine, hell breaks out before the wedding when Jasmine refuses to marry Fateh by claiming that her love for Canada is more than the love she has for Fateh. This results in the families wanting Fateh to marry Tejo the other sister. Post the wedding, Jasmine has started to feel the absence of love and Fateh in her life, and wants him back.

Moving to Sasural Simar Ka 2, again the story of two sisters, Reema (Tanya Sharma) and Simar (Radhika Muthukumar). Reema is more ambitious about her career and has high plans in mind. Simar is the total opposite of her, and is more rooted. Reema’s wedding gets fixed with Aarav (Avinash Mukherjee). But Reema who is career-conscious wants to take the big leap even on her wedding day. An important work assignment forces her to make her sister Simar sit as the bride. She promises to get back on time for the wedding, but circumstances stop her from getting back on time. The result is that Simar is married to Aarav. Now, post the wedding, Reema has realized that she made a big mistake of ruining her own good future. She wants to get back at Simar and is all set to wed the other boy in the same household, Vivaan (Karan Sharma).

The great irony with both the relatable concepts is that while Sasural Simar Ka 2 has the timeslot of 6.30 PM, Udaariyaan follows it at the 7 PM slot.

Wondering whether these back-to-back time slots with the double whammy of similar engaging plots have given the shows the needed boost to up its numbers!!

Having talked about the similarities, let us also dwell on the aspects that do not get us into the familiar territory. While Fateh in Udaariyaan was in love with Jasmine, Aarav in Sasural Simar Ka 2 was not shown to be so very madly in love with Reema. Now, with both Jasmine and Reema wanting to get back at their respective sisters, they hold a different approach to seeking revenge. While Jasmine wants to have Fateh for herself, Reema is trying to get all the sympathy from the younger brother Vivaan and wants to marry him and get into the same household.

Well o well, the journey of these four sisters in Hindi television will be worth a watch in the days to come!!

What is your inference on this interesting plot connection that the two shows shared? Will the plot now move differently?

Only time will tell!!
