A tribute to the man who made Punjab laugh — and never let it stop NEW DELHI / MOHALI — On the birth anniversary of Jaswinder Bhalla, one of Punjab’s most beloved comedic voices, GTC Punjabi today announced the launch of the Jaswinder Bhalla Memorial GTC Comedy Awards — a first-of-its-kind platform dedicated to celebrating the spirit, warmth, and legacy of Punjabi comedy.
The awards were announced by GTC Network Founder and Managing Director Dr. Rabindra Narayan at a function held in Mohali to mark Jaswinder Bhalla’s Birth Anniversary. The event was graced by veterans of Punjabi entertainment including Bal Mukund Sharma, Karamjit Anmol, Sherry Maan, and Pukhraj Bhalla, and attended by Punjab Tourism and Culture Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond.
Jaswinder Bhalla brought laughter into Punjab’s living rooms for decades. His comedy was never sharp-edged or fleeting. It was warm. It was real. It was the kind families watched together and remembered long after the credits rolled. The Jaswinder Bhalla Memorial GTC Comedy Awards are conceived as a permanent tribute to that spirit — and to the performers, writers, and creators who carry it forward.
Dr. Rabindra Narayan, Founder, Managing Director and President of GTC Network, said:
“Jaswinder Bhalla did not just make people laugh. He made them feel at home. That is the rarest gift in entertainment. These awards are our way of saying that what he built — that tradition of comedy rooted in love for Punjab and its people — will not be forgotten. GTC Punjabi exists to honour legacies like his, and to give the next generation of Punjabi talent a stage worthy of that inheritance.”

The Jaswinder Bhalla Memorial GTC Comedy Awards will be presented on GTC Punjabi. Further details on award categories, nominations, and the telecast date will be announced shortly.
