In a time when shows try hard with bold attempts to capture attention, Amazon Prime Video’s Gram Chikitsalay returns with Season, taking a different approach and winning people’s hearts with its simple yet addictive comedy-drama.
Season 2
The Viral Fever-produced series returns to Bhatkandi, resuming the story where it left off in the first season. Season 2 now focuses on the people of the village, the problems that shape their lives, the government hospital, doctor Prabhat Sinha’s consistent efforts to improve health, and competition.
The biggest strength of this series is its storyline; though it is very simple, it feels refreshing in a time where everything is overdone. The makers don’t try to grip viewers with loud drama, extreme sequences, or friction; instead, they let simple storytelling take its course, with the characters bringing their real charm to the scene.
Plot
The story picks up where it left off, with Dr Prabhat Sinha, played by Amol Parashar, on his mission to improve healthcare in Bhatkandi. In the five-episode series, he tries to improve the village’s government hospital. This time, he faces new problems due to a shortage of medicines, despite the number of patients having increased. And with the pure intention of better health care in the village, Dr Prabhat finds himself stuck due to the poor system. At the same time, Dr. Chetak Kumar, played by Vinay Pathak, continues to run his private hospital despite not being qualified and confidently prescribes medicines to villagers by searching for information on Google. While Dr Gargi Singh also runs her health care smoothly, an unexpected issue shakes things up.
What works?
As mentioned, the simplicity of the series is its biggest strength, and Gram Chikitsalay S2 never makes a desperate attempt to strike with viewers; the real characters and issues just make it feel true and connect. Whether the people like Govind, played by Akash Makhija, who wishes to become permanent in his job, or the patient Bhaskar, who, despite being diagnosed with a kidney stone, wishes to drink alcohol or Dr Prabhat who being a well educated doctor struggles in the village with different types of people but never really loses himself—every character has their own importance that helps the story thrive.
What doesn’t work
Well, though the series is a satisfying and addictive watch at points, some scenes felt unnecessary. Also, some moments in the storyline seemed predictable. Yet the sincerity with which the series is presented keeps one invested. And the makers, with confidence, unfold the rural drama that isn’t just delightfully dramatic but also comic.
Director Lalitam Tiwari deserves the appreciation. He effortlessly portrays the story with ease and perfectly focuses on the village, its characters, and how things progress. The series very much feels connected with the everyday chaos, drama, sarcasm, and comedy.
Performances
Actor Amol Parashar wins hearts yet again. He portrays the grounded quality of Dr. Prabhat Sinha with sincerity, never attempting to shine but simply exist and blend. The actor understands his character’s arc, and he never makes it feel like he is acting; it feels like him in real life. Actress Akansha Ranjan Kapoor transforms into her character, Dr Gargi, with ease. Anandeshwar Dwivedi as Phutani is hilarious and commands attention. Vinay Pathak is hilarious and believable as a fake doctor Chetak. Dinesh Lal Yadav is entertaining and adds a different layer to the story. Akash Makhija as Govind is funny and honest.
Overall, Gram Chikitsalay S2 is a must-watch, not because it surprises you or takes you to another world, but because it mirrors the emotions, chaos, drama, and comedy of everyday life. It makes an honest attempt to show the real characters and ordinary problems they face that shape lives. Watching this will leave you satisfied and entertained.
IWMBuzz rates Gram Chikitsalay S2 3.5 out of 5 stars.
