The familiar horror beats make it an average watch
Saianshi Jalali steps into the horror space with Hostel Ki Dayan. This supernatural drama combines a boarding school setting, mysterious events, and a young protagonist caught in an increasingly unsettling situation. With Sahajpreet Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur, Swati Singh, Ummehanee Shaikh, Rajesh Joshi, Shushma Bhagat, and Neha Pandit supporting the cast, the MX Fatafat series attempts to create a creepy world in which secrets and supernatural elements gradually take center stage. Directed by Govind Agrawal, the show focuses on a young group navigating an atmosphere where not everything is as it appears.
Saianshi Jalali plays Tanvi, a rebellious teenager whose personality immediately gives the narrative some energy. She is not introduced as a passive character simply waiting for something frightening to happen, and that makes her presence important to the show’s momentum. Jalali brings the required attitude to Tanvi, particularly when the character faces circumstances far beyond her expectations.
The boarding-school setting is easily one of the more effective aspects of Hostel Ki Dayan. The enclosed environment creates an inherent sense of isolation, while the hostel’s corridors, rooms, and nighttime atmosphere provide enough space for the show to build suspense. The series also moves quickly, which works for its short-form format and ensures that the central mystery does not take too long to emerge.
However, this is also where the show begins to feel familiar. Hostel horror, mysterious spirits, and supernatural secrets have been explored extensively across Indian films and web series. Hostel Ki Dayan does not always bring enough originality to these established ingredients. Some moments spark curiosity, but the overall horror experience could have benefited from stronger character development and more unpredictable storytelling.
The supporting cast contributes to the atmosphere, though several characters lack enough depth to leave a lasting impression. The show is more interested in keeping the mystery moving than in developing every character, which makes certain emotional moments feel less impactful than they could have been.
As a quick horror watch, Hostel Ki Dayan has an interesting premise and a setting that naturally lends itself to suspense. But inconsistent scares, familiar genre beats, and limited character depth hold it back from becoming a genuinely gripping horror experience.
Verdict: Hostel Ki Dayan has the right ingredients for a spooky watch, but it needs fresher treatment, stronger character arcs, and more effective scares to truly stand apart. Saianshi Jalali brings energy to the central role, while the haunted boarding-school atmosphere keeps things intriguing, but the series ultimately feels more familiar than frightening.
