We may have heard, read, and watched the tale of Mahabharata many times, sometimes from the eyes of Arjuna and sometimes from the eyes of Lord Krishna; however, Sony LIV’s latest animated web series focuses on the most tragic hero of the battle, Karna. The series beautifully tells the journey of Karna, from his mysterious birth to becoming the legendary warrior, Anga Raja; his pursuit of fame; his struggles; and his loyalty and friendship with the eldest Kaurava, Duryodhana.

Storyline—The Rise Of Karna

The story opens by introducing the legendary warrior Karna as the son of a charioteer. Before becoming Duryodhana’s loyal friend and the prince of Anga, Karna was a common human, but his exceptional strength, sharp bow and arrow skills, and his thinking made him different from others. Karna’s life changes upside down when he decides to attend the royal feast organized by the Kingdom of Hastinapur and a duel featuring the disciples of Guru Dronacharya, which excites him.

As he attends, Arjuna and his brothers face an unexpected threat with a huge animal attacking the Pandavas. While Arjuna gives his best, defeating the huge animal, it was Karna who helped him do so. As Karna claims that because of him they could defeat the animal, this prompts Arjuna to challenge him. However, as they discover his identity, Yudhishthir denies the battle. Then comes Duryodhana, who accepts Karna and makes him the prince of Anga, which makes Karna eligible to compete against Arjuna. Duryodhana’s recognition makes Karna emotional, and he vows to dedicate his life to him, beginning their lifelong friendship.

Direction, Craft And More

The biggest strength of the series is that it beautifully explores the life of Karna without trying to fabricate it with major or harsh twists or exaggeration to make an impact. The makers maintained a balance, keeping the story familiar while also exploring the unheard truths of Karna. With decent animation quality, the series engages viewers, and the dialogues are impactful. The narrative effectively shows the journey of a tragic hero.

Created by Sharad Devarajan and Jeevan J. Kang, directed by Jeevan J. Kang and Navin John, and produced by the animation studio Graphic India, the animated series presents the story of one of the greatest warriors through crisp, engaging storytelling.

Anup Soni, who voices Karna, beautifully enhances the experience, while Shahid Zafar brings out Duryodhana’s cunning and ruthless nature through his voice. Every character played well in terms of the voice.

Overall, The Legend Of Karna is a must-watch if you are someone who loves animation and great storytelling. The series effectively tells the tale of Mahabharata’s most tragic hero and fascinating character. The makers, with fine attention to detail, presented Karna’s emotions, actions, grandeur, struggles, loyalty, and friendship, making it enjoyable.
