If I can see the white area of a pimple, can I pop it?
– Dan*
It may be tempting, but popping or squeezing a pimple will not always solve the problem. Squeezing the skin can force bacteria and pus further into the skin, causing greater swelling and redness. Squeezing can also cause scabs and leave you with lasting scars or pits.
Because popping isn’t an option, patience is essential. Your pimple will go away on its own, and by letting it alone, you’ll be less likely to be reminded of its presence.
Apply a 5 percent benzoyl peroxide gel or cream to a pimple once or twice a day to speed up the drying process. These over-the-counter treatments may be found in most drugstores, grocery stores, and other skin-care outlets.
Consult your doctor or a dermatologist if you have acne concerns.
