Eddie Redmayne has accomplished a lot in his first 40 years, including winning an Oscar for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for “The Theory of Everything” and a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for “Red.”

Redmayne was born in London and excelled in school, earning a spot at Cambridge University for his university years. He would study art history at a prestigious university. After that, Redmayne moved away from academia and pursued a modeling career. While he was somewhat successful in that field, acting had always been his primary interest and would eventually become his profession.

He had early success on the British stage, winning a number of London rookie prizes at the age of 22 for his performance in Edward Albee’s “The Goat or Who is Sylvia.” He had another major hit in London in the play “Red,” which won him an Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Play, just as he was beginning to appear in film and television roles.

This little independent film stars Redmayne as an uncomfortable young adolescent who, together with another emotionally troubled adolescent played by Kristen Stewart, assists an ex-con in reuniting with his ex-wife.

3. THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING (2014)

This biography about renowned novelist and astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who discovers he has motor neuron disease as a young man in the midst of his blooming career as a scholar, earned Redmayne his first Oscar nomination.

4. THE DANISH GIRL (2015)

For this account about the life of one of the first known examples of s*x reassignment surgery, Redmayne won his second consecutive Best Actor Oscar nomination. The film follows Redmayne and his wife as they become increasingly aware that he believes he was born the incorrect gender.
