The Last Show, Vivek Agnihotri’s new project with Anupam Kher and Satish Kaushik in the lead , is actually based on the two actors’ real-life friendship that goes back to nearly 40 years.

While The Last Show’s director Vivek Agnihotri admitted to similarities between the real and reel to me when I asked him about it,writer-director Rumi Jaffrey confirms that this film is indeed based on the Kher-Kaushik dosti.

Says Rumi, “ In this film industry of fickle opportunistic relationships some of us have made life-long friends. I’m very lucky to have really good friends in this industry. Anupam and Satish have known each other for more than forty years. They’ve remained very close friends through ups and downs in their own lives. Their close relationship has not seen any change over the years. They remain close friends beyond their profession.”

Rumi thought their friendship would make for a great story. “Vivek Agnihotri asked me to write a story based on Anupam and Satish’s friendship. He gave me very little time to do so, as he wants to start shooting immediately, I thought, why not? There is so much to learn from this dosti.”

Rumi has set his story of timeless friendship in Bhopal. “This is the city I was born and brought up in. Bhopal understands the value of human relationships.”

Adds Satish Kaushik, “This film is dedicated to creativity. Anupam and my journey as actors from theatre to cinema is a shared experience which we believe would have a lot of takeaway for the audience. It will have inspirational anecdotes from our life and friendship. Anupam and I are dreamers and achievers and spent some great moments of fun , happiness, sadness, excitement together as friends and the script has a lot of images and experiences of our friendship.”
