Eros International Media Ltd has filed a lawsuit against Aanand L. Rai for ₹84 crores in the Bombay High Court and his Colour Yellow Media Entertainment LLP company, claiming that the 2013 blockbuster Raanjhanaa’s intellectual property was used without the owner’s consent.

The lawsuit focuses on Rai’s upcoming movie Tere Ishk Mein, scheduled for release in 2025. Eros has alleged that the film was illegitimately touted as a “spiritual sequel” to Raanjhanaa without the proper licensing or permissions being acquired. The studio has pointed out parallels between the characters and noted that actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub plays Murari in both films, while the character of Dhanush Shankar is said to undergo an emotional transition similar to Kundan Shankar’s in Raanjhanaa. The suit asserts that these factors amount to copyright and trademark infringement, per reports.

The studio also said that they had sent a legal notice on July 25, 2025, compelling the movie to stop using the disputed elements, but Tere Ishk Mein was released on November 28, 2025, with the contested elements still intact. The lawsuit, besides Rai and Colour Yellow, names T-Series, writer Himanshu Sharma, and Netflix India as defendants.

In August 2025, Rai condemned Eros for re-releasing Raanjhanaa with an AI-modified ending and without his approval. Eros had also filed a petition in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) alleging that the company had engaged in financial malpractice to the tune of ₹80 crores and had blocked Rai’s plans for Tanu Weds Manu 3 by claiming exclusive franchise rights.
