Yolanda’s parenting approach, which was seen by millions of viewers on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, has caused controversy before. Yolanda, a former model, was what many people might describe as a forceful parent since she worked hard to help her daughters succeed as models.

Some, however, believe that she went too far and that the way she treated Gigi and Bella when they were teenagers demonstrated a toxic attitude toward food that can fuel eating disorders. Although it’s essential to note that there can be a variety of complex reasons why someone can acquire an eating disorder, Bella admitted to having anorexia as a teenager in the same interview, where she also talked about getting her nose changed. Bella stated in the discussion that Yolanda was not to blame for her eating issue and that Adderall, which she was taking after being incorrectly diagnosed with ADHD, was partially to blame when she displayed signs of anxiety and melancholy.

One of Yolanda’s keywords was “diet.” One of the most shocking episodes has her telling Gigi that she can only indulge in “poor” food on her birthday since Yolanda advised her that Milan and Paris prefer girls who are “just a bit on the slim side” as Gigi was preparing to work fashion week. (As we all know, eating is neither good nor bad, no matter how unhealthy it may be.) Another memorable incident is when Gigi phones Yolanda to report feeling faint after consuming half an almond. Advice from Yolanda? For Gigi to consume a further two almonds.

In season four, she also compliments Gigi on her diet, which sounds awfully unpleasant and unfun, saying, “Aren’t you proud? Six days a week of workout is challenging.” Yolanda was concerned about Gigi playing volleyball because she thought it was a “male” sport that would make her “large and hefty,” and she also worried about her avoiding chocolate and having to eat a salad every day because of her modeling commitment. A very masculine sport, volleyball. In the 2012 episode of season three, which aired, Yolanda informs the then-17-year-old while cooking supper for her family, “Modeling a very feminine thing.”

Even when Gigi attempted to consume cake during Yolanda’s own graduation, she was uninterested. ‘This is the toughest for being on our diet,’ she says when she chops the cake. Yolanda then consumes a modest slice of cake herself. It would be difficult to avoid being impacted by growing up with this kind of attitude toward food.
