Kerala is the powerhouse of spices. We have heard of the traditional South-Indian Dishes, but among all the South-Indian states, Kerala dishes are what everyone craves. So here’s an interesting recipe for you.

PUTTU–KADALA CURRY

Ingredients- ½ cup Grated Fresh Coconut, 1 cup Kala Chana/Kadala/Black Chickpeas, 2 tbsp Coconut Oil, ½ tsp Mustard Seeds, 12 Curry Leaves, 1 tsp Ginger Paste, 1 tsp Garlic Paste, ½ cup Chopped Onion, ½ Cup Chopped Tomato, 2-3 Slit into half Green Chilli, 1 tsp Coriander Powder, ½ tsp Turmeric Powder, 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder, ½ tsp Kerala Garam Masala Powder, Salt to taste.
For Tempering- 1 tbsp Coconut Oil, ½ tsp Mustard Seeds, ¼ tsp Hing, 10-12 Curry Leaves, 2-3 Dry red chilies.

Procedure:-
1. Boil the chana with water and 2 tbsp salt.
2. Dry roast the fresh coconut until it turns brown.
3. Transfer it to a blender along with ½ cup of water and make a smooth paste.
4. Heat some coconut oil in a pan. Now, add mustard seeds and curry leaves and let them crackle for a few seconds.
5. Add the ginger paste and garlic paste and fry. Now, add onion and fry until it turns translucent.
6. Now, add tomato and green chili and cook.
7. Now, add some coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala powder and fry for 3-4 minutes.
8. Add the coconut paste and cook for a minute.
9. Combine everything with cooked chana along with the water.
10. Mash a few chana with the back of a ladle.

For Tempering-
1. Heat coconut oil in a pan.
2. Now, add mustard seeds, hing, curry leaves, and dry red chilli and fry for a few seconds.
3. Pour it over the curry.
