Madhuri Dixit, the legendary actress has now opened up on women empowerment in Bollywood. The actress recently been a part of the Netflix film The Fame Game. The actress gave us a major come back moment with the film onscreen. And now talking about women empowerment in Bollywood the actress revealed how things have changed for women in the industry, for earlier women on the sets were only actors, co-actors and hairdressers, but now the tables have turned for now women are in every department.

Talking to Harper’s Baazar, “There was a time when I used to go on the sets and the only women on the set used to be actors, the co-actors, and the hairdressers. That’s it. Today when I walk in, there are women in every department—whether it’s the director, writer, or camera person, and it gives me great joy to see that (sic).”

Adding on how her life changed after marrying Dr Shriram Nene, she said, “I grew up in a very protected environment My parents used to always accompany me, even when I was working. But once I got married, I began making decisions by myself. I learnt a lot about life because living in the US. When I was in India, there would always be around 20 people fussing over me at all times, but there I was very independent. I had to do things on my own, bring up my kids—of course, my mom and mom-in-law would come and help me out whenever I needed. But as you grow older, you mature and learn a lot, and grow as a person with your experiences. Today, I use those experiences when I’m essaying a role (sic).”

The actress giving out a message for women, she said, “We need to recognise that women at different stages in their lives play different roles. Today, women are not just homemakers; they are breaking the glass ceiling, making a name for themselves, and getting lauded for that. And that’s great for each one of us because they’re inspiring us to achieve more. Don’t listen to people who tell you what you can or should do. Just go out there and do it. Because people may not support you, but once you have made a mark, they will praise you. You have to do things for yourself (sic),”

She further added, “I think for women, right now, the issue is that they have to prove themselves again and again to get respect. Something has to give, but change takes time It’s one baby step at a time. And I think from where I started, we’ve come a long way. I see a very bright future. I’m optimistic that things will change, one step at a time (sic).” As stated in India Today.
