K-pop has virtually become associated with the letters B, T, and S in recent years. Another K-pop trio, however, has been shattering records as their music has captivated a global audience. Blackpink, a four-woman girl group that emerged in 2016, is a multilingual performance force that connects with fans all around the world. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa may have just recently begun touring internationally, but their meteoric rise is already being fueled by a large fan base that extends well beyond South Korea.

Jisoo has been in a lot of music videos and advertisements prior to joining Blackpink. The vocalist is trilingual, speaking Korean, Japanese, and Chinese while being the only member who can not speak English fluently. She was born and raised in Korea.

Jennie spent time in New Zealand before returning to South Korea in 2010, and she is proficient in English, Korean, and Japanese. She was the very first singer of Blackpink to record a solo song, “SOLO,” in the form of a single.

Rosé was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, where she placed first in YG Entertainment’s auditions. She also speaks English fluently. She is the lead vocalist of the band, and her distinctive voice is easily recognized.

Lisa, the group’s youngest member dubbed “maknae,” is the group’s main dancer. Lisa was born and raised in Thailand, where she was a member of a dance crew before auditioning to be a K-pop idol trainee. Lisa speaks Thai, English, Japanese, and basic Chinese in addition to Korean, which she began learning after relocating to South Korea in 2011.
