When Ed Sheeran expressed his desire to be a professional musician in high school, he was urged to “get a real job.” In a new interview, the singer-songwriter expressed his desire for children to be allowed to pursue their goals. “When I told them I wanted to be a musician as a kid, they said, ‘You need to have a real job.'”

He went on to say, “School is very difficult.” “You have all these examinations — math, English, and science – and they are all quite challenging. But I want to tell students that if they pursue what they love, they will eventually be paid for it.”

Dani Filth of Cradle Of Filth has hinted at a possible collaboration with Sheeran, who said that he was “very into death metal as a child.” Sheeran made the remarks in a recent interview with the Sun, saying he’d “never considered” going in that path with his own songs. It was, however, “something I wouldn’t mind making.”

The singer of “Bad Habits” feels that young people should be encouraged to be “creative” rather than being forced to focus on academics, and advised children to follow their passions, just as he did. “I think students should be encouraged to be creative,” he said in the Sunday Mirror’s Watts the Goss column.

Despite his words of support for young people, Ed recently said that he does not want his and Cherry’s daughter Lyra – who turns one this month – to follow in his footsteps when she grows up because he wants her to have her own identity separate from him.
