Edge Of Tomorrow: For this Doug Liman film, Tom Cruise returns to the sci-fi genre alongside Emily Blunt, who is the epitome of perfection. I’m prepared to give Christopher McQuarrie credit for just about anything, so it’s possible that this film’s progress is due to the fact that he co-wrote the script.
Jack Reacher: Although Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher franchise stopped after the second installment, I still enjoy the films. Okay, so he doesn’t quite resemble the Lee Child persona. Christopher McQuarrie wrote and directed the 2012 Jack Reacher film, and the man knows how to make a decent film, especially one starring Tom Cruise.
Collateral: Collateral seemed like a brand-new Tom Cruise film. A different kind of action thriller, with a different appearance, style, and tone. He’s not like Tom Hanks in that he’s okay with playing the evil guy on occasion. In Michael Mann’s film, he played a hitman this time.
Top Gun: Top Gun is a great place to start. It’s difficult to exaggerate how significant this film was when it was released in 1986. According to Box Office Mojo, the film was made on a $15 million budget and grossed $353.8 million worldwide, with a pretty even split between domestic (US/Canada) and overseas markets.
Mission Impossible: There was no certainty that Tom Cruise’s performance as Ethan Hunt in this 1996 film would be a smash. There’s no assurance that it will establish a brand that improves over time. Talk about a near-impossible task! There was an original Mission: Impossible TV series as well as a follow-up series.
