Jennifer Lopez was voted People’s Icon of 2020 at the People’s Choice Awards, and she looked A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. You’ve probably already seen her look A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. at the People’s Choice Awards.

If we’re being honest, we were expecting her to show up with the Shag, which has quickly become her hallmark hairstyle. Jlo can pull off any haircut Chris Appleton throws at her, but we’ve seen a more mussed-up texture creeping in approximately a month ago. It started with a low-key mullet shag and evolved into a ’90s aerobics instructor crimp, which we also enjoyed. She took a break from shagging around with some Spice Girls space buns, but The Shag didn’t go away quickly, and it was back in a flash (in the guise of cool-girl bedhead).

So it’s understandable that we anticipated she’d stick to her tried-and-true texture for the big awards. But we were completely mistaken, because the hairstyle she chose was glitzy, glossy, and appeared to be inspired by another pop star’s characteristic style…

Jen shared a photo of her very high ponytail on Instagram Stories, which had glossy ringlets cascading down from the top of her head. Jlo was playing Ariana Grande’s Positions for the reveal, and the look seemed familiar.

Ariana recently debuted a half-up hairstyle with a school assembly fringe, so perhaps she’s delegated the high ponytail to Jlo for the time being? Giving your scalp a rest is a good idea, Ariana.
