Excerpts

Family time with Ekbir and Addite. How is it going for you?

Life has been great. Being around Ekbir and tending to his needs makes me a proud father. This Diwali was special for us. It was Ekbir’s first Diwali. Above all, we have shifted to our new home. So we are busy furnishing our home. We recently went to Mahabaleshwar to celebrate Ekbir’s six months birthday.

Congrats on opening a new restaurant joint in Bangalore recently.

Thank you. Ya, that’s doing great. We have just opened a joint in Bangalore. There’s a great response coming. We had a place out there. We checked, did the research and found it to be lucrative. Addite has been balancing between her work and Ekbir.

Ekbir singing in the background can be heard as we talk. Is he a fan of Kulfi Kumar Bajewala?

Yes, he is turning out to be a good singer. You can hear it for yourself (smiles).

How has this new phase of life been for you?

I usually dedicate myself to a show that I do. Work becomes everything once I get involved in it. This phase seems to be special. I keep telling Addite that it will become difficult for me to stay away from Ekbir once I start work. I think I will cry when I leave him and go for work. But I am a workaholic, I need to get back.

What’s happening with respect to work now?

I am just meeting people for TV, web and films. I am not in a hurry. Taking things easy. I am enjoying time with Ekbir and Addite.

I want to work with Producers who have the conviction on the project they are making. That way I have always been choosy about what I do. In simple words, I like to work with people who are on the same page creatively. I want to take a project where they deserve me. I know my strengths as an actor. I want to stretch myself as a performer where the difficulty factor will be raised. I do not want to play a very single-dimensional character.

How do you view the scenario of people turning to digital platforms to watch TV shows?

A lot of people are watching TV shows on Smart TV, more on digital platforms. So the shift is definitely happening. I guess a day will come when shows will be made majorly for the digital platforms, based on TV content. TV has the scope to go further, creatively. Honestly speaking, newer concepts should be encouraged more.

What keeps you busy now apart from family time?

Apart from my family time, my acting keeps me busy. My acting continues, just that I do not get paid for it. I have a group of friends, we meet up every weekend. Everyone performs scenes and we give feedback to each other. This way I work on myself as a performer. When you are working, you do not learn new stuff. You just apply yourself to the work on hand. I want to tell this to people who are waiting for good work. Just continue to work on yourself. Be strong in your own craft. When the time comes, you are ready to apply yourself to a new character.

Any new craft learned during this phase?

I am learning gymnastics. I have always wanted to learn it. This is the time. I am enjoying every bit of the learning curve.

Your message to fans.

Take care of yourself and your near ones. I will be back soon with yet another challenging project.
