Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke the popular Star Plus show produced by Director’s Kut has seen the entry of actor Vatsal Sheth as Nishant Maheshwari, Jasmeet’s son.

Nishant, as we have seen is a lively guy who aims to bring joy on everyone’s faces. Vatsal who has had a fabulous run as actor has this uncanny knack of experimenting with roles.

And he is doing just that with his new role in the Star Plus show.

In a chat with Vatsal Sheth, we get to know about his role, the reason behind him joining an ongoing show, and on his other projects.

Excerpts:

Welcome back to playing a positive character after a long time…

Yes, it is true.. I am playing a positive character after a long time. First of all, I am very excited about the role and to work with the whole setup of Rajan Shahi and Star Plus. The show is so popular and has a great fan following. Shaheer Sheikh and Rhea Sharma are great actors. All this makes me all the happier.

How are the reactions pouring in after your entry?

Well, you have to tell me that… Definitely, there were nervous energies as the show and lead characters are very popular. At the end of the day, it has been a challenge for me. I have played my character in a very different way. You would know of it if you have seen it. I am quite happy with the way fans have reacted and accepted me.

What went behind you taking this role?

As I said earlier, the role was positive and I had to take it up. Also the production house is very big and I wanted to work with Rajan Sir. I have had a great past with Star Plus. And also the show is very popular. And if you have seen my career graph, I have always picked up challenges and roles that demand good performances.

You played an anti-hero in Ek Hasina Thi at a time when actors dreaded to play one.

Yes you are right!! There was a time when actors refused to work as an anti-hero. So all said and done, I have always looked for roles that are promising and puts me on a new path. As for my entry in Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke, the online reactions have been good and people like it.

Now the matter is settled and our family prefers to see both shows online, rather than fighting for the remote (smiles).

Are you anywhere close to how Nishant of Yeh Rishtey is?

See, I am very different to what this character is like. I am quite an introvert and keep myself silent in most of the situations. Nishant is full of life; he has come back from London. He keeps himself going with his pranks and joyous nature. If Nishant is part of your group, there will not be one sad moment. Such is this character!! So yes, the effort is on to play this character. And as I have said, I always try to bring in that difference with respect to the characters I have already played.

How is it going with Ishita Dutta being a competitor at the same slot with Bepanah Pyaar?

Yes, on a personal level, there is rivalry that is happening at home. Both of our shows air at 10PM. Now the matter is settled and our family prefers to see both shows online, rather than fighting for the remote (smiles).

Nishant is that friend who you always bank on. He wants to keep Mishti happy.

What is your takeaway from this character you play?

Right now, it has just been 15 days since I have started shoot. So I am even now understanding the nuances of the character. It will take some time for me to actually relate to Nishant’s character.

It has been an interesting friendly chemistry between Nishant and Mishti. How will this go on?

Nishant is that friend who you always bank on. If you have seen the episodes, you will understand that Nishant is trying really hard to understand why Mishti is unhappy. His goal is to keep her happy. He wants to see that smile back on Mishti’s face.

Is there a love angle between Nishant and Mishti in the near future?

Not really. As of now, Nishant wants to keep Mishti happy. He wants to make sure that she gets what she wants.

You have just wrapped up shoot of your maiden Gujarati film Hun Mari Wife Ne Eno Husband.

Yes, being a Gujarati, I have always been getting lot of offers. I have right now finished the shoot of my first here. It should release in February 2020. We are all excited. It is an out and out comedy film. It has a great cast that includes Johny Lever, Vrajesh Hirjee, Esha Kansara. I had a great time shooting for the film. We shot the film in London. Fingers crossed and I hope that people accept me in Gujarati cinema.

What are your future projects?

Well, I did a short film recently. There are few talks happening on the digital platform. As of now, you can enjoy watching me as Nishant in Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke.
