Talented young actress Eisha Chopra who recently exercised her acting prowess in the web series What The Folks and has been part of successful projects like The Great Indian Dysfunctional Wedding, Neerja, No One Killed Jessica, Out Of Love, and has been part of FilterCopy videos is honoured to be a ‘woman’ who has it in her to empower other women who get motivated with her work.
On the occasion of Women’s Day today, Eisha talks about how she feels the changed perspective of the industry has given rise to women getting empowered seeing powerful onscreen characters.
“My intentions as an actor used to be very selfish. When I first started acting, all I wanted was to explore my craft, to satisfy myself creatively and professionally.
A few years ago, the landscape of the industry began to change. As women in India became more liberated so did the Indian stories. As the stories changed, so did the audiences. Back in the day, my DMs used to be filled with ‘dirty messages from creepy dudes’ but slowly, I began to receive messages from girls, often from smaller towns or raised in more orthodox backgrounds, about how these roles and stories were empowering them as women. They began to feel like they could make different choices, some started to realize that they had choices at all!
This changed the way I saw myself, and my own work. I don’t believe every issue needs to be legitimized by films or actors, but the stories we tell do have the power to change real-life narratives. Our work is no longer just about us.”
