The first time he became aware of music and began to take it seriously was when he was fifteen years old and a student at Welham Boys’ School. He began studying classical music while also picking up the piano, guitar, harmonium, and other instruments. When he was eighteen, and still in college, the legendary A.R. Rahman heard him perform and was impressed by his voice. He advised him to continue honing and exploring his voice for a few more years before breaking into the industry.

Furthermore, he recalls that he had made the decision to work with Mr. Rahman someday on that exact same day. He took the advice, returned home, and began training with Mrs. Vandana Srivastava, his former schoolteacher. He worked on honing his musical abilities over the subsequent four years. He visited various musicians while traveling. In Benaras, Channulal Mishra gave him the chance to study light classical music, while in Chennai, legendary guitarist Prasanna taught him about western music. In order to comprehend rock and alternative music, he additionally jammed with U.K. local bands. He entered the singing competition X Factor India in 2011 and won, which marked his first step toward success.
