Blackpink was not nominated for a Grammy since their recordings did not match the criteria. This could be the primary reason for their absence from the Grammys. Due to the fact that their album was released after the deadline of August 31st, they were not eligible for the Grammys.

Grammy’s has its own issues, a lot of domination has been witnessed when it comes to k-pop in the categories. With only a few EPs and singles under their belts and one full album under their belts, these ladies have a long way to go before catching the notice of the Recording Academy. There are also other K-pop groups with more musical talent than BlackPink that have yet to receive even a cursory look from the American GP.

BlackPink has the ability to improve their music and performance to the point that they could be “Grammy-worthy” one day, but the odds are stacked against them right now. According to Billboard’s K-pop columnist Jeff Benjamin, a stronger display of artistry and inventiveness could be crucial for their album to get nominated.

“I believe that in order to get acknowledged at the Grammys, artists must first demonstrate that they are credible musicians,” Benjamin told the Korea Times. “It would be incredibly advantageous for Blackpink to reveal more about themselves as artists, as well as how the members contribute to their music and overall work.”

In the case of Blackpink, they have already established a strong presence in the American market, and the quality of their albums is consistently outstanding – what has to change is the Grammys’ method. K-pop needs to be recognized as it’s not about awards but the connection between the artists and the fans.
