Wriddhiman Saha Selection Row: Snehashish defends brother Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid reacts

Check out the latest about Wriddhiman Saha selection controversy

Ever since Wriddhiman Saha came forward with an explosive interview against Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, Indian cricket has once again found itself in a hotspot and amidst controversy.

As per reports in Cricbuzz, Saha had revealed that Ganguly had congratulated him after a knock and had apparently assured him a place in the Test side till he is at the helm of things. Not just that, he also revealed that he was shocked to see things change and also revealed that Rahul Dravid apparently asked him to consider retirement.

Another reason why Saha made headlines was because of his WhatsApp chat with a senior journalist who apparently threatened him for not giving an interview.

Amidst all this, Sourav Ganguly’s brother, Snehashish Ganguly has come forward to react to Wriddhiman’s statement. He was quoted by Indian Express speaking to reporters saying,

“This is my personal opinion, but what was communicated to him (Saha) by the chief selector/BCCI was private. He probably shouldn’t have gone public with that. Also, he could have played the Ranji Trophy. He cited personal reasons for pulling out and we have to respect that. The door is always open for him, whenever he wants to join the squad.”

Even current Indian Team coach Rahul Dravid has broken his silence on the same and was quoted by Times Of India saying,

“I’m actually not hurt at all. I have deep respect for Wriddhi and his achievements and his contribution to Indian cricket. My conversation came from that place. I think he deserved honesty and clarity. I was just trying to convey that with RP (Pant), having established himself as our No.1 wicketkeeper-batsman, the idea was to say that we are looking to groom a younger wicketkeeper (Kona Bharat). This doesn’t change my feelings or respect for Wriddhi.”

He further added,

“It’s about conversations I constantly have with players. I don’t expect players to always agree with everything I say about them. That’s not how it works. You can have difficult conversations with the players, but that doesn’t mean you brush it under the carpet and don’t have the conversations.”

He concluded by saying,

“I always believe in having those conversations before every playing XI is picked and be open to questions such as why they are not playing. It’s natural for players to get upset and feel hurt.”

Even the likes of former cricketers like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and many more asked Wriddhiman to name the ‘journalist’ in question whereas Ravi Shastri asked the BCCI President to step in this controversy.
