You’re far from alone if you’ve ever considered deleting your social media accounts.

There are a slew of Hollywood personalities who have decided to abandon social media for good—even if only for a day.

These A-list celebrities made a decision that many of us wished we could make (hello, The Social Dilemma). Whether they decided to take a break from the toxicity or say goodbye to their platforms for good, they made a decision that many of us wished we could make.

We’ve compiled a list of celebrities who have chosen to discontinue their internet presence, both temporarily and permanently.

Selena Gomez

Rare, Selena Gomez’s first new album in over four years, is out now. “When you take that long of a break, it is pretty nerve-wracking,” she says.

Despite having one of the largest Instagram followings, Gomez bid goodbye to the social media site in 2018, claiming that her decision “saved” her life. While she has returned to social media, she is no longer the one doing the swiping.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen, who is well-known for her Twitter character and creative online clapbacks, announced her departure from the social media network on March 26, 2021.

Teigen tweeted just before canceling her account, “For over 10 years, you guys have been my universe.” “I owe a great deal to the world we’ve established here. So many of you have become true friends of mine.”

She said in a follow-up tweet: “But it’s time for me to depart. This no longer serves me as well as it once did, and I believe it’s time to call it quits.”

Rihanna

After posting a near-nude photo, the beauty mogul’s Instagram account was suspended for breaking the site’s nudity policy. She was back six months later, and she was better than ever.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus chose to alter her social media presence in 2018 by deactivating her account ahead of the release of her album. The “Malibu” singer mysteriously deleted all of her Instagram postings before reappearing the following year with a massive internet presence.
