Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft has crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon at 1:38 PM on 12th June 2025.
The aircraft was bound for London which plunged into the Meghani area of the city, sending up a massive black smoke and triggered emergency response.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), there were 242 people on board the aircraft — 230 passengers, 2 pilots, and 10 cabin crew members.
The aircraft was under the command of Capt Sumeet Sabharwal, along with the first officer Clive Kundar.
It is reported, the flight was heavily fueled for the long-haul journey, which added to the intensity of the fire which caused huge explosions.
According to official sources, the plane included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian national, and seven Portuguese nationals.
Emergency services, including fire engines, ambulances, and city police have reached the site quickly.
Bollywood stars, Ananya Panday, Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, Vicky Kaushal and others have shared their pain through social media.
Akshay Kumar wrote, “Shocked and speechless at the Air India crash. Only prayers at this time”.
Parineeti Chopra wrote, Can’t imagine the pain of the family members of the ill fated Air India flight today. Praying for God to give them strength during this time”.
Vicky Kaushal Wrote, “Devastating news of the Air India plane crash… making my heart sink reading about 242 persons on board. Praying for everyone’s safety and recovery”.
