Are they getting married? Are they not? Are they getting married in April? Or in June?

For God’s sake, who gives a damn? Does anyone really care when this couple become Man and Wife? Are they Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor? Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri? Or Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai? Virat Kohli or Anushka Sharma?

Does anyone remember the last film that Ali Fazal appeared in? No? Then his marketing team is here to remind us that Ali and his sweetheart are important to us. We don’t know why or how they are important. Is it by dint of being film actors? Is that all the qualification required to be a celebrity in this country?

Mr Fazal and Ms Chadha have made it clear that their wedding is their private affair. In that case, why don’t they curb their publicists’ over-enthusiasm rather than accuse the Indian media of fabricating wedding details?

They have now provided us with details of the Ali-Richa wedding’s guest list. Apparently Hollywood stars are invited. Or so we are told carefully leaked information from the PR machinery. Sure, why not? Remember how recently a rickshaw puller from Uttar Pradesh invited the Prime Minister? Why can’t Ali invite Judi Dench or Gal Gadot? He can even invite Kylie Jenner. That way he’s sure to get Diljit Dosanjh to come.

I would wager anything that Judi Dame Wench and Gal Gadot are not coming for the Ali-Richa wedding. Why should they? Just because Ali Fazal has worked with them? By that reckoning, Tom Cruise should have come to Sonam Kapoor’s wedding as her father has worked with Cruise.

Why are we taking so much interest on who is coming to Fazal’s wedding with his beloved? More importantly, why are we so fixated on international celebrities?
