Being a culinary enthusiast with a taste for delectable cuisine, however, is not the same as aspiring to be the next Bobby Flay. The truth is that being a restaurant owner is not for everyone. However, here are 3 celebrities that attempted to open a restaurant but failed horribly.
1. Britney Spears
Britney reportedly invested in a New York City restaurant named Nyla, which offered Cajun food, earlier in her career in 2002. She stepped out of her relationship barely six months after a breakup with music singer Justin Timberlake due to mishandling of cash and a huge debt buildup. Nyla died young after attempting to transition from Cajun to Italian food.
2. Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria is known for her ambition as a prolific actress and businesswoman, so it’s only natural that she would venture into a sector that is sure to earn money regardless of the economy. So it was thought to be a sure thing when the Desperate Housewives star opted to build the SHe by Morton’s restaurant in a retail complex on the Las Vegas Strip in late 2012. Not to mention that it’s Las Vegas, where the rich and famous congregate to have a good time! Eva especially targeted the female market by offering small steaks for women at a moderate price of $36. However, the restaurant was closed less than two years later after health inspectors uncovered 32 breaches, most of which were related to inappropriate food storage temperatures.
3. Justin Timberlake
When his part-owned Italian restaurant, Destino, shuttered in 2013 for the strangest of reasons, it appears that this renowned Backstreet Boy pop singer wasn’t the only one sobbing a river. Justin Timberlake founded the eatery at First Avenue and 50th Street in Manhattan in 2006, and other celebrities such as Bill Cosby and former baseball star Carlos Beltran were among the regulars. It was selected not just because of its excellent Italian cuisine, but also because of its wonderful ambiance. All of that changed in July 2013, when sewage waste began flowing down the restaurant’s walls and onto the grounds due to plumbing problems above the institution. This happened not once, but twice, and both times it resulted in mold. That is self-evident.
