The shocking decision by K-pop music group BTS to take a break has again in the headlines which favoured debate about the country’s essential military service.

It is known to everyone that all healthy men between the ages of 18 to 28 have to serve the nation in the military for about two years.

While over the years some men have gained exception that allows delaying their service. And this list includes winners of the Olympics, Asian Games, Musicians, and others. While K-pop band BTS boys are also permitted this delay until the age of 30.

And now the South Korean Parliament is discussing a new amendment that will only require pop stars to do just three weeks of military training. And this decision is really important for the eldest member of the band.

And the oldest one in the group is Jin who is now 29 years old. He has already delayed his military service, and now he has to as soon as possible go for the military training. This also means he will be away from the band for two years.

The lawmaker proposed an amendment that will offer only three weeks of military training for k-pop stars. And he also said in his word to Reuters, “The members cited exhaustion and the need for rest as the main reason, but the real reason was Jin’s military service.”

Also emphasized BTS’s work for the nation, “BTS has done a job that would take more than 1,000 diplomats to do.”

As the band has taken up the country’s pride to another level with their musical art. And that BTS is the first Asian musical group to win artist of the year at the American Music Awards in 2021.

Officially are still discussing this hot topic and want to do a fair decision. However, 60 per cent of South Koreans supported the bill while 3 per cent opposed it. It is stressful for the boys to deal with this torturing decision.

It seems that Kpop is the only industry that will bring in the change in military service rules. While there are considerations of engineers, researchers, and other technology fields.

While the Ministry of Defence called for a fair take on this amendment for equality. And there are also people wondering about the special treatment for BTS.

Seo Chang-jun said, “The Olympic Games are national events where all Koreans cheer for the same team, but not everyone is a BTS fan, he told Reuters. “Many people aren’t interested in them.”

Still, nothing has been finalized, and yet everything is circling hope for the best decision.
