Shikara is a movie directed by established director Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He has tried to beautifully portray a love story between two people belonging to the Kashmiri Pandit group who had to leave their motherland. It is a timeless story in the worst of times. Many Kashmiri pandits have lashed out on the director for not showing the torture and pain this particular community went through when they were threatened to leave their places in Kashmir. But it’s not a reason to boycott the movie. Here are a few reasons why you should watch this beautiful movie.

The movie advertised as showing the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits which it does achieve. It does try to cover the problems behind Kashmir turmoil through subtle dialogues and TV news. It will be unrealistic to expect the movie to completely cover the reasons behind extremism and the political upheaval in the state. What it really shows is the human values in times of turbulence. The love story of a young couple through troubled times, the friendship between two individuals of different communities, and so much more. This movie should be watched for what it is – a love story that keeps our faith alive in human values. This movie comes with a message of harmony, peace, love, and brotherhood among various communities in Kashmir. The movie has a display of emotions, beautiful songs, and spectacular locations.

Hatred can be overcome only with love is the important message to take from this masterpiece.
