Sriti Jha’s poem on asexuality has gone viral. A few years back, the actress gave it a performance at The Spoken Festival in Mumbai. The actress admits that the video was not based on her life when it became popular once more.

Sriti admitted in an interview with a magazine that the poem is not about her. She has only given this issue a voice. “I’ve written poetry about the LGBTQ community, and I realize that many people took those poems to be about me because they were written in the first person. After I had written a few more poems, a poet named Daniyal warned me that by writing the poems in the first person, I would be robbing the individuals and their significant tales of their voices. The actress continued by saying that the poem had given her a lot of comfort because she had previously experienced a time when she felt unheard and under pressure to fit in with the ‘cool’ crowd.

In 2017, while Sriti was ill with tuberculosis, she began writing poems. She acknowledged that a non-binary poet who frequently writes about the community had been an inspiration. Her first poem was Choodiyan, and after that, she published a series of Fairytales for Blind Children, which had a poem about asexuality as well as one on a lesbian love story.
